A two-hour reception on May 18, 2003, honored 19 original residents people who were the first tenants of their respective apartments. People like Helen Kern, who at age 54 moved into the east tower two weeks and three days after it opened and lived there for more than 40 years. Over the weekend, The Toast of the Towers celebrated the 40th anniversary of tenants moving into Marina City. Events included guided tours of residential units and a panel discussion featuring architects Geoffrey Goldberg, son of Marina City architect Bertrand Goldberg, Dr. Katerina Ruedi Ray, who lived at Marina City from 1996 to 1999, and Michael Anania, an architecture writer. The 1965 Warren Beatty film Mickey One was shown, including scenes shot at Marina City, as well as This is Marina City, a promotional film produced in 1965 by Portland Cement Association. Kathleen Katie Calhoun worked as a graphic artist for Chicago Sun-Times for more than 30 years. Adrian Da Prato played violin for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for 50 years. Richard Flader was a former president of Marina Towers Condominium Association. Betty Hogeorges was executive secretary to the general manager of Executive House, then catering director and assistant general manager of Olympia Fields Country Club.
