Racial mix of Marina City in 2010 Data released in May 2011 from the 2010 Census showed Marina City’s population shrunk over the past decade. Census workers found 929 people living in 879 housing units, down 13 percent from 2000.

Racially, there were 15 percent fewer whites, 31 percent fewer blacks, but an increase in the number of Asians and other races.

Census data was released for the 27th precinct of Chicago’s 42nd Ward and conveniently, everyone who lives in the 27th precinct is a resident of Marina City. All but 26 residents were age 18 or older. In 2000, there were 22 residents younger than 18.

The census was able to determine occupancy status of all but 17 of Marina City’s 896 residential units. It found 739 were occupied and 140 were vacant.

In 1965, an unofficial “census” by Marina City’s property manager showed a population of 1,279 residents.
