It may have been a small fire for Marina City, but a unit on the 21st floor of the west tower was damaged on April 21, 2006.
At about 5:30 a.m., a candle is thought to have caused a fire that attracted emergency crews, shut down nearby streets, and even rerouted some CTA buses. There were no injuries.
In 2007, smoke and heat detectors, each capable of sending an alarm directly to the fire department, were installed in each unit. Marina Towers Condominium Association said it was one of the most advanced life-safety systems of any older building in the city.
