At about 5:30 a.m., a candle is thought to have caused a fire that attracted emergency crews, shut down nearby streets, and even rerouted some CTA buses. There were no injuries.

In 2007, smoke and heat detectors, each capable of sending an alarm directly to the fire department, were installed in each unit. Marina Towers Condominium Association said it was “one of the most advanced life-safety systems of any older building in the city.”
